Frank E Nichols, 90 years old of Portland, New York, left his earthly home for the greener pastures of life in Heaven on Sunday, July 21, 2019. He was born in Oil City Pa. on June 15, 1929 to Charles and Sara Tarr Nichols. Frank attended schools in Oil City, Pa and Brocton, NY. He served in the Army during World War II (1946-1947). Frank was then employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad until August of 1952 when he was appointed as a New York State Trooper. There he was assigned to Troop D in Oneida, NY where in his early career he served in the communications department where he was the assistant clerk and motor vehicle inspector. Frank was then in charge of the Troop D bloodhound detail and stayed there until his retirement. He retired as a State Trooper in 1973.

Together with his wife, Lorena, Frank owned and operated the Five Acres Restaurant in Canastota, NY. In 1979 Frank and Lorena moved to Seminole, Florida where he managed the Extra Closet Storage Warehouse until 1985 when he and Lorena retired to their home at Bear Creek Lodge, Forestport, NY. Frank and Lorena enjoyed motor home travel across the US making Franks dream trip to Alaska not once but twice. They spent their winters in Florida.  After the passing of Lorena, Frank moved back to his hometown in Portland, NY. and reconnected with his high school sweetheart, Shirley Skinner. They enjoyed summers by Lake Erie and winters in Florida.  Frank was a member of the Former Troopers Assn. and the American Legion John W Dill Post 434 of Brocton, NY. and the NRA.

Frank is survived by his daughter Sandy ( Jay) Duke of Summerville, South Carolina, stepson Don (Darcy) Rouse of Canastota, NY. Seven grandchildren, Cory, Kelly, Carrie Amber, Nicole, Ashley and D.J., three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents Charles and Sara he was predeceased by his wife of 31 years Lorena, three brothers Jim, Marvin, and John and four sisters Marion, Arienita, Alma and Ruth and his special pet Snoopy.

There will be no visitation. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at 1 pm in the Tri-Church Parish, 35 East Main Street, Brocton, NY 14716. Frank's final resting place will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Chittenango, NY which will be announced at a later date. Donations in Frank's memory may be made to the Tri-Church Parish.
