Marguerite V Smith
Marguerite V Smith, 106 years old of Brocton, New York went to be with the Lord on September 12, 2018 at Absolut of Westfield, peacefully with her son and daughter-in-law by her side. She was born in Heilwood, Pennsylvania on May 18, 1912 to Albin and Eugina (Bellmondo) Pognant. At a young age, she helped care for her neighbors Clarence and Belle Farnham and remained at that farm for the rest of her life. Marguerite was a graduate of Brocton Schools, Fredonia Normal School and Buffalo State College. She was an Elementary Teacher at Pomfret District # 3, Brocton Central School, Franklinville Central and Ripley Central School, retiring in 1972.
She was a member of the New York State Retired Teachers Assn , and the former Hillside Club. Marguerite was a member of St. Dominic's Church of Brocton and a past member of the Alter and Rosary Society. Besides loving her family , her hobbies were her grape farm, gardening, canning, knitting and studying the Bible.
Marguerite is survived by her son Harold H(Lois) Smith of Brocton, New York, Three grandchildren Robert H (Cheryl) Smith, Kirk A Smith and Kathleen D (Eric) Murtaugh and three great-grandchildren Andrea and Emily Smith and Quinn Murtaugh, all of Fredonia, New York. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents she was predeceased in death by her husband Donald Sears Smith who passed away on May 18, 1974, one brother Julius Pognant and one sister Melvina Burton.
Funeral Services will take place on Monday, September 17, 2018 at 10 am from St. Dominic's Roman Catholic Church, 12 Central Ave. in Brocton, New York where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Msgr. Albert Clody. Interment will be in Portland Evergreen Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to call at the Morse Funeral Home, 51 Highland Ave. Brocton, N.Y. on Sunday September 16, 2018 from 2-4 in the afternoon. Flowers gratefully declined.
