Edward Ransom, 83 years old of Lamberton, New York passed away with his family at his side early Saturday morning March 31, 2018 at Hamot Hospital in Erie Pa. after a short illness. He was born in Dunkirk, New York on February 18, 1935 to the late Norman and Edna Springborn Ransom and had lived in the Brocton-Fredonia area all of his life. He was a graduate of Brocton Central School and was a retired Grape Grower and in Ed's time he was among the largest grape growers in Chautauqua County. Before owning the Grape Farm he had been employed at Alco of Dunkirk, New York and Welch Foods in Brocton, New York. He had also been a Board Member for Westfield Maid Inc. of Westfield and a member of The Torch Club of Fredonia, New York. Besides loving his family, Ed enjoyed fishing and working and in 1974 was honored by the FHA by being named Farm Family of the Year.
Ed is survived by his wife of 62 years and business partner Joann (Parker) Ransom. They were married on January 7, 1956; one son Dale (Donna) Ransom of Fredonia, New York; three daughters Peggy Jo (Louis) Szczukowski of Fredonia, New York, Diane J (Bruce Whitten) Hockert of Houston, Texas, Bonnalyn J (Ken Makelke) O'Malley of Hamburg, New York. 14 Grandchildren, Louis (Stefanie) Szczukowski, Jacob (Robyn) Szczukowski, Daniel (Michelle) Szczukowski, Kit (Liz) Hockert, Tara Hockert, Cassandra (Tim) Slade. Dakota (Alyssa) Hockert, Derrick (Janine) Ransom, Dustin (Brittany) Ransom, Drew (Erin) Ransom, D. Nicholas Ransom, Keisha McClosky, C. Darby O'Malley and Kenneth Makelke Jr., 12 great grandchildren; one brother Arthur Ransom of Fredonia, New York, one sister Barb Krauth of Brocton, New York. He was predeceased by two sisters Margaret Piehl and Betty Ransom.
Funeral Services will be held from the Morse Funeral Home at 11am on Thursday April 5, 2018. The Rev Molly Golando will officiate. Interment will follow at the Portland Evergreen Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the Morse Funeral Home, 51 Highland Ave. Brocton, New York from 2-4 and 7-9 on Wednesday April 4, 2018
