Clyde Pier, 78 years old of Portland, New York passed away on Tuesday Evening December 19, 2017 at Absolut of Westfield in Westfield, New York after an extended illness. He was born on July 11, 1939 in Portland New York to the late Merle and Gertrude Lindberg Pier. Clyde lived in this area his entire life. He was a graduate of Brocton Central School and had worked as a Truck Driver for Flickengers of Jamestown New York. Clyde enjoyed square dancing participating in it for 25 years and for 10 years he was a licensed square dance caller.. He was a long time member of the Portland Fire Department and a member of the Brocton Baptist Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years and 4 months Gladys (Douglas) Pier, one son Dennis (Lisa) Pier of Jacksonville, Florida and one daughter Julie Graves of Atlanta Georgia, six grandchildren Roxanne Beeson, Katie Lawrence, William Pier, Tyler Graves, Kyle Graves, and Alyssa Graves; three great grandchildren Kylie Lawrence, Douglas Lawrence Jr. and Klara Lawrence and several nieces and nephews, one sister Helen Abby of Waterford Pa. He was predeceased by one brother Gordon Pier and son-in-law Joseph Graves. Funeral Services will be held at 11 am from the Morse Funeral Home in Brocton, New York on Saturday morning December 23, 2017. Friends are invited to call at the Morse Funeral Home from 2-4 and 7-9 on Friday December 22, 2017 and also visitation will take place one hour prior to the start of the Funeral Service on Saturday morning. Interment will follow at the Portland Evergreen Cemetery. The family requests Memorials in Clyde's honor be made to The Portland Fire Dept., West Main Road Rt. 20, Portland, New York 14769.
