Joseph D. Wolnik, 88 years old, of Brocton, New York, passed away after a short illness Friday evening, January 13, 2017, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 4, 1928 in Brocton, New York, the son of the late Peter and Mary (Niedbalski) Wolnik. A graduate of Brocton Central School, he was a retired crane repairman for the Allegheny-Ludlum Steel Corporation.
Mr. Wolnik was a member of St. Dominic’s Roman Catholic Church, the First Ward Falcons Club, the Kosciuszko Club, and was a exempt member of the Brocton Fire Department. He served two years as a village trustee for the village of Brocton and for many years was an umpire for Brocton Youth Baseball. He was an avid walker.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Hill) Wolnik, whom he married February 3, 1951; three daughters, Jana (Eugene) Tarnowski of Dunkirk, Dawn (Rick) Belleville of Centreville, Virginia, and Jody (Michael) Gianotti of Saline, Michigan; two sons, Peter Wolnik of Fredonia and Daniel (Tammy) Wolnik of Maitland, Florida; 12 grandchildren, Tara (Doug) Amidon, Traci (Joe) Sword, Alicia Belleville, Kevin (Rebecca) Gianotti, Micaella Gianotti, Leah Gianotti, Samantha Gianotti, and Shayne, Seth, Lucas, Ally-sa and Rhett Wolnik; four great-grandchildren, Benjamin Amidon, Anna Amidon, Amilya Wolnik and Selina Wolnik; and one sister, Esther Travis of Broc-ton. He was predeceased by a brother, Leo Wolnik; and four sisters, Dorothy Zagorski-Mildenstein, Lorraine Portanova, Barbara Wlodarek and Dolly Dejnarski.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday afternoon, January17, 2017, at 1 o’clock from St. Dominic’s Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Walters as Celebrant. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no visitation. Memorials to Hospice or the Brocton Fire Department would be greatly appreciated.
