Sylvia Mawhir, 58 years old of Brocton, New York passed away surrounded by her loving family early Wednesday afternoon February 24, 2016 after her courageous battle with cancer. Sylvia was born in Dunkirk, New York on February 7, 1958 and was the daughter of the late Clarence Corbett and Angeline Galardo Corbett of Dunkirk, New York. She had lived in this area her entire life. She was a 1976 graduate of The Dunkirk City School District and also received her Associate Degree from Jamestown Community College. She worked as a Manager for Advance Septic of Cassadaga, New York. Besides loving and spending time with her family, Sylvia enjoyed going to concerts especially The Rolling Stones and Bruce Springsteen.. She was very active in her childrens school activities and was also a very active member of Relay For Life.
She is survived by her loving husband of 30 years Steve Mawhir , two daughters Kara Mawhir of Fredonia, New York and Katelyn Mawhir of Brocton, New York. Her mother Angeline Corbett of Dunkirk, New York, two brothers Clarence (Linda) Corbett of Dunkirk New York and John (Cheryl) Corbett of Fredonia, New York, one sister Mrs. Dixie (Scott) McFeely of North East, Pa., and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father Clarence Corbett who passed away in 1986.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday morning February 27, 2016 at 10am from Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church 1020 Central Ave. in Dunkirk, New York where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Daniel Walsh. Interment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Fredonia, New York. Friends are invited to call at the Morse Funeral Home 51 Highland Ave. in Brocton, New York on Friday February 26, 2016 fro 4-8pm. The family suggests Memorials in Sylvia honor be made to The Brocton, Fire Dept., Lake Ave. Brocton, 14716 and/or to Hospice of Chautauqua County 20 W.Fairmount Ave. Lakewood, New York 14750. Immediately following the Funeral Service and Interment everyone is invited by the family to attend a luncheon in her memory at the American Legion John W Dill Post 434, 110 West Main St. Brocton, New York from 12 until 4pm.
