Prudence H. Putnam, 98, passed on November 11, 2016 at Dunkirk, New York.
She was born August 30, 1918 at Simmons Hill in the Town of Portland, daughter of the late W. Burr and Hazel C. Hiller. When she was small, the family moved closer to Westfield on what is now Felton Road.
Mrs. Putnam graduated from Westfield Academy with an Academic Arts Regent Diploma, the first to do so from Westfield Academy. She attended Jamestown Business College. She enjoyed life and worked at many different occupations. She bowled for forty years in the Westfield area. Mrs. Putnam also enjoyed crafts and playing Bridge and Pinochle. When she had her children, she stayed home and raised her family in the Portland area. She later resided in Clarksville, Arkansas from 1979 to 1995, where she was active in the Mt. Olive Methodist Church and the Mt. Olive Extension Homemakers.
Three children survive her: Tracy A. Riedesel and her husband, George, of Erie, PA; Janet V. Hill and her husband, Rand, of Marilla, NY, and Penelope J. Sprague and her husband, Robert, of Jonesboro, Arkansas, six grandsons: Sean C. Brown; Jeremy M. Riedesel; Christopher J. Riedesel; Robert B. Sprague (Elizabeth); Joseph A. Sprague, and Benjamin H. Sprague, four granddaughters: Kimberly B. Dane (Mitch); Meghan N. Brown; Sarah V. Hill, and Lauren E. Hill, four great-grandsons: Justin Lapp, Luke Schindler, Max Schindler and Robert M. Sprague, and three great-granddaughters: Ryleigh Sprague, Ashleigh Sprague and Taylor Sprague. She is also survived by two stepchildren: Lewis Putnam (Penny) and Crystal Putnam, several step-grandchildren and step- great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Mrs. Putnam was preceded in death by a son, Aaron T. Brown, who passed away on December 15, 2008, her brother, William B. Hiller, who passed away December 3, 2000, a stepson, Michael D. Putnam, her husband, Leigh Putnam, who passed away on June 11, 1992, and two former husbands, Theodore Brown and Cecil J. Work.
Prudence Putnam A Memorial Service for Prudy, who passed away on November 11, 2016 at the Chautauqua County Home and Infirmary in Dunkirk, New York will take place on Tuesday afternoon at 1pm on November 22, 2016 at the Mayville Cemetery in Mayville New York. The family will be present also to receive family and friends after the service at the First Presbyterian Church, 49 South Portage St. in Westfield, New York following the service. Funeral arrangements were provided by the Morse Funeral Home of Brocton, New York.
