Daryl Raymond Thayer, 67 years old, of Ellicott Rd in Portland, New York, passed away Monday morning, December 21, 2015 at the Gowanda Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Gowanda, New York after a lengthy illness. He was born in Westfield, New York on December 10, 1948 to the late Raymond and Evelyn Brown Thayer and has lived in this area his entire life. Dayrl was a 1969 graduate of Brocton Central School. He also served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Dayrl had been employed for many years as a truck driver for Dan Heil Transportation. He is a former member of The Westfield Moose and The American Legion John W Dill Post 434 of Brocton, New York. Besides spending time with his family, Daryl enjoyed farming.
Daryl is survived by his wife of 36 years, Debra Thayer and two daughters Mrs Melissa (Tony) Jones of Monroe, North Carolina and Mrs. Christine Fregosi also of Monroe, North Carolina, five grandchildren: Jennifer Robinson, Aaron Robinson, Derek Jones, Michael DuPrey and Nicholas Fregosi, one sister Mrs. Sharon (Ronald) Couchman of Fredonia, New York, three nephews and one niece. Besides his parents he was predeceased by one niece Julie Ann Beyer
Funeral arrangements will take place on Sunday December 27, 2015 at 1 pm from the Morse Funeral Home 51 Highland Ave in Brocton, New York, The Rev Larry Morrison of the Brocton Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will follow at the Portland Evergreen Cemetery. Full Military Honors will be accorded Daryl by the American Legion John W Dill Post 434 of Brocton New York. Friends are invited to call at The Morse Funeral Home on Saturday December 26, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9. The family suggests Memorials in his honor be made to the woundedwarriorproject.org.
